Originated in New York in 1840

Fruit:
Very large apple. When ripe, bright yellow marbled apple with stripes of crimson. Can reach enormous size, hence the name. Yellow flesh has a light, sweet taste, somewhat coarse texture. Good cooking apple. Excellent for apple butter.
